Rhône Valley's cru - version française
The Rasteau vineyard represents 1240 hectares of vines. The Domaine des Girasols covers 16 hectares that are particularly well situated : south facing, protected from the Mistral, on terraces and slopes with an arid clayey chalky soil covered with “galets roulés” (rounded pebbles).
The Girasol vines are regularly replaced but a plot is preserved with Grenache grapes planted in 1914
The yield is controlled and aimed at quality : an average of 30 to 40 hl/ha and even 25 hl/ha for the old Grenache vines that are jealously kept for our Vieilles Vignes wines
The Grenache comprises 57% of the vineyard grapes, Syrah 15 %, Cinsault 12%, Mourvèdre 11% and the Carignan 5%.
The vinification cellar dates back to 1978 and was built partly into the side of the hill thereby enabling a vinification by gravity that saves excessive pumping.
The harvest is undertaken manually with a careful selection on site and each variety vinified separately.
Lengthy fermentation periods of 15 to 21 days without yeast enable the obtention of supple wines.
In order to round of certain wines the maturing in big barrels favours the roundness and finesse of the wines.
The detailed assemblies of the wines, which vary from year to year, represent the most delicate operations of vinification. By tasting each wine we can decide on the originality or temperament of each wine or vintage.
After 2 years of maturing we select “the right time” for bottling.
The Domaine deserves a visit whether you discovered Girasols wines during a meal with family or friends, at a trade fair, on advice from friends or at a camping site in the region.
The quality and selection of our wines await you for tasting in a friendly, pleasant and relaxed environment. !!!
The Blog, recently implemented, gives you the possibility of getting to know us and exchanging your views as well as remaining in contact with us after a tasting.
